Thinking

Our human brains love to take shortcuts. We all have patterns of thinking that our brain will ‘default’ to in certain situations. These are based on our values and beliefs, and the experiences we’ve had in the past.

Not all of our thoughts are helpful. In fact, some of them will stop us getting good results. A big part of self-awareness is understanding our thinking patterns or ‘self talk’.

Reflective activity:

Think about a recent situation that didn’t work out as well as you would have liked. Ask yourself these questions;

  • What thoughts went through my mind?
  • Which thoughts were helpful in the situation?
  • Which were unhelpful?
  • How could I change my thinking next time a situation like this happens, to get a different result?
